Why does the thrill of soaring begin with the fear of falling? Why do we allow the fear of rejection to override the possibility of achieving our dreams? We have all heard the phrase...Dare to Dream. Dare means to challenge to do something dangerous or foolhardy. Remember the game Truth or Dare? When playing that game, was it easier for you to just take the truth question instead of taking a risk or challenge of doing something risky or foolhardy? Most of us live our life that way...always playing it safe and living inside the box. Even as children we are told to color inside the lines. I have even heard someone say...I only drive on back roads...I don't like driving on the highways!
To me, Life is on the highway, the only time I want to be in a box is in the grave and I love to color outside the lines. I don't want to ever be so resistant to change that life passes me by. Some people seem to be stuck in life because they cannot imagine life outside the box...so they stay safe and secure and sometimes become stagnant. Security comes within stability and there is a risk factor in change because of the unknown. However, when we embrace change, we can sometimes experience the adventure of a lifetime. Even when I look back on my life, some of the hardest times I have experienced were due to change. But those changes have produced some of the greatest blessings in my life. Blessings I would have missed if I hadn't taken the dare to dream. Success comes when we understand life is about constantly changing and growing. When we are immobilized by the fear of change, we miss the beauty in life. If there was no change...there would be no butterflies! Life is about moving, it's about changing, it's about growing. Think about it..if things stop "doing"...then they're dead! If you have risked much and lost much..it really doesn't matter. The mistakes don't matter and the failure doesn't matter. What matters is that you learned from your mistakes and failures. What matters is that you change and move forward...you grow because of those experiences. As long as your living, there's one more lesson to be learned. As I write this blog, there is so much change that has occurred in my life the past few months and so much change ahead of me. If I focus on the risk...the unknown..then I become resistant and fearful. But if I can jump with abandonment into the wind of change, I have the possibility of soaring to new and exciting places that I would miss if I was too afraid to change.
Learn to jump with abandonment in order to soar towards your dreams.
Once again I am reminded of the story of the momma eagle and her baby.
The momma eagle gently coaxed her offspring toward the edge of the nest. Her heart beat with emotion wondering why does the thrill of soaring have to begin with the fear of falling? Despite her fears, she knew it was time. The eagle drew courage from her innate wisdom. Until her children discovered their wings, there was no purpose for their lives. Until they learned how to soar, they would fail to understand what a privilege it was to have been born an eagle. The push was the greatest gift she had to offer. It was her supreme act of love. And so with one push...her baby learned to fly.
Even eagles need a push!!
